The 14 days Rwanda and Uganda gorillas Safari starts with arrival in Kigali and overnight. Thereafter, you will connect to Nyungwe for chimp tracking and canopy walk. Next is Volcanoes NP where you will do gorilla trekking, do golden monkey trekking. Cross border in Uganda’s Bwindi and expect gorilla trekking there. From Bwindi, you will head to Queen Elizabeth NP via its Ishasha sector – famously known for tree-climbing lions. Next stop will be Kibale Forest NP before heading to Murchison Falls NP. From Murchison, visit Ziwa Rhino sanctuary before ending up in Entebbe to wind up the 14 days Rwanda and Uganda gorillas safari.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali City

On arrival at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda, you will be received by one of our representative/guide who will welcome you to Rwanda and brief you about your safari. Thereafter, you will be transferred to your accommodation for relaxation and the overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Depart to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, we’ll make stops at places of interest including local markets, and the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. In Butare, visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum. We’ll have lunch after our stops. Also, we’ll drive past green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides along with small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest.

Day 3: Chimp trekking in Nyungwe Forest and afternoon canopy walk

Chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Sheltering the highest population of chimpanzees in Rwanda (roughly 400), Chimpanzee trekking is a major activity done in Nyungwe Forest National Park. Have your breakfast and transfer to the trekking point where you will first receive some briefing on the dos and don’ts during chimp trekking. Thereafter, enter the forest to encounter these fascinating and human-like primates firsthand in their natural habitat. Afterwards, return to the accommodation for lunch and some rest before going out again for the canopy walk experience.

The two hours walk starts and ends at the park’s headquarters – Uwinka information center. Travelers walk on the built trail which hangs 60 meters above the forest rewarding them with an aerial view of the national park, wildlife, adjacent communities, Virunga volcanoes and attractions in the neighboring countries.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Very early in the morning after having your heavy breakfast, you will transfer to Kinigi near Parc National des Volcans – home of gorillas. It is about 4-5 hours’ drive so you will stop at Gisenyi on shores of Lake Kivu for lunch, and then proceed to the park for dinner and overnight at La Palme Hotel.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking experience in the Volcanoes National Park

Gorilla trekking on your Rwanda safari-Volcanoes National Park

This day will be remembered for a lifetime. After an early breakfast, we will definitely be given a preliminary trekking briefing before being assigned to groups and walking in the woods. Additionally, there is no guess as to how long or short our hike will be, as it depends on the gorillas and the weather, so you can stay in the park from one hour to six or more.

No matter how long the hike is, the reward at the end is the same: a magical hour of watching these magnificent animals as they relax, play and eat in the heart of the jungle.

At the end of the hike, we will return to our lodge. Lastly, you will have dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 6: Golden monkey trekking at Volcanoes NP and transfer to Bwindi-Uganda

The golden monkey trekking takes place in Volcanoes National Park and is literally the same as the gorilla trekking. These rare monkey species are also listed as endangered. Additionally, Volcanoes NP has habituated groups that are available for trekking by visitors. The exercise starts with a short briefing from the park ranger at the RDB office.Thereafter, you will proceed to trek the golden monkeys through the rainforest of the Volcanoes NP. Return to the accommodation for some rest and lunch. After lunch, drive to the Cyanika border post. From Cyanika, you will be received by our Uganda-based professional tour driver-guide who will take over from his Rwanda-based colleague.

You will then cross the border into Uganda and have overnight stay at a property close to Bwindi National Park, where you will undertake the gorilla trekking as we embark on the 14 day Rwanda and Uganda safari.

Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Very early in the morning 6:30 am after breakfast, an early start report to the ranger station for your briefing as you head to the Forest to start your mountain gorilla’s trekking through the forest and up the slopes which requires stamina and patience but the first encounter with these mighty animals will be a truly memorable one.

This is done by the lead of experienced guides.
Additionally, it takes about 2-8 hours searching for these beautiful gentle giants and after meeting them tourists are given an hour of interacting with them in taking pictures and staring about what they do with their families.

After you will return at the lodge for lunch and relaxation and then later in the evening you will have the Batwa community experience.

Lastly, you will have dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 8: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP with a game drive in Ishasha sector

You will arrive in time for lunch at the lodge and game drive in the plains of Kasenyi in search for Savannah wildlife that may include herds of buffaloes, antelopes, elephants and if lucky, some wild cats such as tree climbing lions and leopard.

Day 9:    Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise at Kazinga channel

Game Drive Experience

Be up early and have your breakfast. Proceed for a morning game drive/safari in the Kasenyi plains and be on the look for Cape buffalos, herds of elephants plus lions, leopards (though hard to spot) among others. Return to the accommodation for some rest time and lunch.

After lunch, you will go for a 2-hour boat trip on the Kazinga Channel that connects Lakes George and Edward. During the trip, the sight of wildlife including giant hippos, elephants and crocodiles among others will fascinate you.

You will also see many varieties of birds at the water shores and then, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Morning game drive and transfer to Kibale National Park

After an early breakfast drive to the northern bank of Queen Elizabeth National Park (Kasenyi) area in searches the wild animals which include: Elephants, Buffalos, and the wild cats, Savanna birds and deferent species of antelopes such waterbuck, Uganda Kobs among others. After lunch, you will drive to Kibale Forest National Park arriving at your lodge in the evening.

Day 11: Chimps and Bigodi swamp walk

After breakfast at your lodge, transfer to the starting point of your chimpanzee tracking experience in Kibale Forest National Park which is reputed to have the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. The most famous of its 13 species is the chimpanzee, man’s closest relative. Kibale’s 1450 chimpanzees represent Uganda’s largest population of this endangered primate.

After lunch, head to Bigodi for an optional afternoon swamp walk at an extra fee. Bigodi was established by a local development organization to protect the 4sq km Magombe Swamp that’s home to around 200 species of birds (highlights include papyrus gonolek, white-winged warbler and great blue turaco). Dinner and overnight at your lodge

Day 12: Transfer to Murchison Falls NP

After your early morning breakfast, drive to Murchison Falls National Park. You will go through small towns, villages and great views of the escarpment arriving late evening. We can have an evening game drive in Murchison falls national park, as we continue to your lodge for dinner and your overnight.

Day 13: Morning game drive and afternoon launch cruise

Have your breakfast, then depart for an early morning game drive across the rolling plains of Uganda’s largest National Park and be on the look for wildlife including: lions, leopards too(though hard to spot) among others. For any birder, there are quite a number of birds to sight too during the drive. Return to the accommodation for some rest time and lunch.

After lunch, you will head out for the boat trip to the base of Murchison Falls where you will also be able to catch sight of more animals including Hippos and Crocodiles and several water birds. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 14: Ziwa rhino sanctuary and to Entebbe airport for departure

On our last day of our 14 day Rwanda and Uganda gorillas safari, you will have your breakfast and then drive off to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Once in Ziwa, you will definitely proceed for an hour of on-foot rhino tracking in the company of a ranger-guide.

From the rhino tracking you will embark on a transfer to Entebbe Airport to catch your flight. In case you are flying out next day, we also have a Kampala city tour at an extra cost before you depart.

This will mark the end of our 14 days Rwanda and Uganda gorilla safari.
