Amboseli National Park is in southern part of Kenya near the border with Tanzania with views to the highest Mountain in Africa “Mount Kilimanjaro” and large herds of elephants.
The park’s observation Hills offer panoramas of the peaks and the park’s plains together with the swamps. A varaity of wildlife in the park includes giraffes, zebras, cheetahs and hundreds of bird species. The western section is dominated by vast Lake Amboseli, which is dry outside the rainy season. While in Amboseli National Park, expect to do a number of activities like:
Game drives (Morning, afternoon, evening and night game drives).
Game drives take place through out the day but the best time to see wild animals is early in the morning. Morning game drives begin at 6:30am till 11:30am, and another good time for game viewing is from 2pm till 6:30pm. During day time you can be able to see the high concentration of animals on water banks taking water for example, the Spotted hynas, bush baby, serval cats, waterbucks, buffaloes, baboons, aardwolf, leopards, jackals, lions elephants among others.
Masai Cultural visits.
The park is surrounded by the “Maasai people” where visitors can get to learn about their unique way of life. This include their thrilling traditional dances, lifetime, unique clothing, as well as participating in the re-afforestation activity with them.
Guided Nature walks.
A guided nature walk is the best way of adventuring the hidden treasures of the park since it’s done on foot. Here, you get a chance to have closer viewing of wild animals such as herds of elephants, zebras, giraffes, impalas, buffaloes among others.
Amboseli National Park is a home to over 400 bird species which can be seen along swamp areas, grasslands, acacia woodlands and beyond.
The elephants of Amboseli National Park are among the most studied in the world. This is attributed to the works of Dr Cynthia Moss, whose books includes the Amboseli Elephants and Elephant Memories. The research camp remains in operation in the heart of the park, under the guidance of the “Amboseli Trust for Elephants” and a visit here is a rare opportunity to learn more about these gentle giants.
- Hot air ballons.
This is yet another amazing and rewarding activity done early in the morning in Amboseli National Park. Here, you get to have an aerial view of herds of elephants, buffaloes, plains, birds in the air among others.
Horseback riding safaris.
Another way to explore the park in a unique way is by riding a horse. This is a unique way to experience the park without the safari vehicle where you get to see the elephants and giraffes in their natural environment, and meeting with native tribes.
The sun-downer is an amazing part of the safari where you get to have an elegant cocktail served while watching the spectacle views of the African sunset.
The park is also a home to the Big Five game animals that include the elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, lions and leopards seen year-round.
How to reach the lodge.
