Overview

1-day birding in Akagera national park, The Park is the Central Africa’s largest protected wetland and the last refuge for Savannah-adapted species in the country. Stretching across a vast expanse of low-lying mountains and Savannah plains, the park takes in the rolling highlands woodlands, swamp-fringed lakes, and wetlands of the Kagera River along the way.

Day 1. Pick up and transfer to Akagera national park

You will be picked up from the residence /hotel in Kigali and proceed to Akagera National Park. Upon arrival at the park headquarters, you will have a briefing. Proceed to Akagera Game Lodge for a light breakfast.

Embark on a game viewing drive in search for different bird species until 14h30 with picnic lunches. Transfer to the Lake Ihema Jetty. Depart for a guided boat safari.

The tour takes about one hour and a half and expects to view lots of bird species on the shores of the lake looking for fish.

Akagera is the reach of Crocodiles and hippos wallow in the park’s watery basins, predator’s prowl through its acacia groves, and elephant, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and other animals roam across its grassy plains. Bursting with rich biodiversity, the park features a variety of rare species, as well as plenty of mammals and hundreds of bird species.

Once through, you will have a game drive as you exit through the main entrance (south). Continue to Kigali. Arrive and drop off at your hotel/residence or Kigali International Airport and this marks the end of 1 day birding in Akagera national park
